How accessible are the handbooks to readers who are busy, stressed, or have education gaps?

All our books are written at an 8th grade level or lower, using clear, simple vocabulary, a photo on each page, and a
positive, encouraging tone.

Are the materials research based?

Yes, all information provided is supported by research on effective family strategies and services, and is written by a child
welfare professional with over 30 years experience.

How inclusive are the materials?

All materials are designed to maximize inclusiveness and emphasize family involvement.  Pictures show mothers, fathers,
and even an occasional grandparent, of diverse races, lovingly interacting with their young children.  Most are available in
Spanish as well as English versions.

All but two of our publications are written to include any family in need, whether single-parent, two-parent, and/or
relative-headed families.  The other two publications (
10 Great Ways to Keep Your Love Strong and A Great New Beginning) ,
reflecting the research showing that most (82%) of unmarried parents are still romantically involved at the time of the
baby's birth, and that children benefit substantially if parents can stay together in a healthy, stable union,  specifically
focus on supporting two-parent families who wish to build a strong, safe, healthy union.

How can a nationally distributed book help families find local resources?

Most resources that clients need, such as TANF, Head Start, Healthy Families America, or other programs for families, have
national offices or networks which can place families in touch with local programs.  The books explain the resources in clear
terms, and then include contact information (in most cases, a toll-free phone number) that can direct the client to their local
resource.   Where there is no national office or network, readers are directed to a locally available resource such as 211 or 411
information by phone and/or sources such as the family's health care provider, local schools, or local community centers.
(See also customizing options below.)

Can books be customized to meet my agency's needs?

Yes, agencies may request free customizing on all orders of 1000 or more books to identify your agency, include local contact
information, and/or to reflect agency priorities.  For full information, click
